A while back I did a heritage walk through the Hunters Hill in Sydney.
An old established area with beautiful old colonial buildings. This building was on bucket list for a while … but what a nightmare to paint.
DO NOT buy Watercolour paper in advance, do not keep it for months.
My s.c. watercolour paper lost all sizing, it turned into a blotting paper, could not lift any pigment and if you did gently, the paper disintegrated, and bits peeled off. The same happened when I tried to remove the masking fluid. As I painted the foliage, it simply became insipid so I improvised and have Jackarandas framing the house instead. Had to use pen and ink to finish it off and to give the painting some definition.
Through sheer stubbornness and because I really liked the drawing – an accomplishment for me, I persevered. Should have chucked it in the bin.
Watercolour pigment on Blotting paper Size 38 x 28 cms.
Nice work
