Western Australia Red Gum. Size 25 x 32 cms, gouache but used like watercolours Was driving along the side of the road and could not resist this beautiful flowering red gum, some in full bloom, some with only the calyx & then the beautiful large gum nuts. Could not resist and had to break a branch off...but I asked the owner first :-).
Australian Natives Jo Sonja gouache, Size 38 x 53 cms on 150grm Cartridge paper, used WN acrylic sealer on
finished painting.
This has been a work in progress for quite a few days, and it is quite obvious
why…too many details. I was trying a different approach to using acrylics, in
that spraying with water and letting the colours run, wanting a achieve that looser
effect of watercolours & loose the fairly solid appearance of traditional
gouache paintings... yet keep the colour brightness .. avoid the “muddy
appearance” …. I seemed to have always ended up with when using acrylics &
white., in many instance I substituted the warm white with other tonally lighter
colours to achieve stroke variations & highlights.
A combined excercise among friends on FB. Practising simplification, looseness, and tones. Fairly limited pallet for me WC.38 x 28 cms. Left a bench next to the tree out, because I felt it would stop the eye going into the distance.
