Old Ferry & Trunkey Creek Shack, Australia

Old Ferry & Trunkey Creek Shack, Australia
Watercolour, Size 38 x 28 cms
The impetus for this painting was the wonderful photo by Carol McLaren Theolog of the old do-it-yourself ferry across the creek, and then I decided to combine it with my photos of the old Australiana shacks …which as usual, I had to doctor and improvise to come up with a reasonable composition…so at least I hoped.
Unfortunately, the Arches watercolour paper gave me hell again…it was one of those frustrating pieces of ”blotting” paper (alas sizing gone bad)..but I persevered.

Majestic Gum Tree with a Pioneer Hut

Watercolour, Size 57 x 38 cms
One of those endearing scenes somewhere in Australia.
I used 3 of my photos to create this painting using artistic license as I went along.
For me the gum in forefront was very important, to show different tones, textures, smoothness/roughness of the tree.
Spot the sheep??

Die Angel im Herbst, Emsland, Germany

Watercolour, Size 38 x 28 cms.  Photo by Maria Balcells, PmP & TPL
I had to paint this photo, it recalls so many happy memories when we were living in Emsland...not far from where the photo has been taken.
I think I do not want to paint trees for a while. This was quite a challenge to work out how to paint fallen leaves

Winterland_Snowy Farm

Watercolour, Size 38 x 28 cms
Thank you Maria for the inspiration for this painting.…

Flute Player

Watercolour, Size 18 x 25 cms
It is a bit out of proportion, but an attempt at a loose, impressionistic illusion.
Inspiration Steve Lyddon photo _ PmP

Pensford Village, England

Watercolour, Size 38 x 28 cms
Inspiration was a photo from Steve Lyndon, PmP. I think I was a bit over-ambitious to attempt such a quaint but rather difficult subject.

HAS AdHoc Exhibition

I am going to see myself "hanging" at HAS AdHoc Exhibition at Wallarobba on 28th September 2012.  Only a very minor representation on my part, mind you, but still I am chuffed. Ignore the little typo under my picture - it should read River Ems - and if you wonder where that is?  Emsland, Lingen-Schepsdorf, Germany
Ad Hoc Art Exhibition Opening Night 28/9/12 was, for me, a personal success....3 paintings sold (all "Australiana" theme).

Samos, Greek Island.

Watercolour, 38 cms x 28 cms .This delightful little house caught my eyes while walking in a scorching sun through Samos narrow streets. The white painted stripe next to the house walkway is painted deliberately to stop the ants & other undesirable little beasties to enter the house.

Olympia, Greece

Watercolour, Size 38 x 28 cms
Recent visit to Greece was full of impressions and vivid memories.... it is not at all easy trying to recapture the essence, the overwhelming past glory.........

Lavender Fields

Acrylics, Size 38 x 28 cms
If I weren't so miserly, I would throw all the gone-bad watercolour paper away instead of persevering and using it for the acrylics. PmP photo by Franklin was used as an inspiration

Tulips

Acrylics, Arches 200 gr --- WC paper turned blotting paper Size 38 x 28 cms
Have a laugh, this is my attempt at semi-abstract & at using acrylics. These are meant to be be tulips .  Well I found a great use for my Watercolour paper which lost its sizing. There is no problem using it with acrylics.
I drew the design in roughly...but that all disappeared when I started applying the acrylics with a big brush and a smaller one later one to get some shapes in - so I simply improvised
In spite of this being more like a Kindergarten finger painting, I strangely enjoyed just clacking paint onto the paper, it was somehow liberating.

Ayers Rock (Uluru), Central Australia

Acrylics, Size 38 x 28 cms
Well I was determined to paint the famous landmark of Australia and also use my  watercolour paper which lost the sizing and thus rendered unusable for WC.  This is my 3rd attempt at acrylics and possibly last...I simply cannot get used to their opacity & loosing that translucence magic of WC. As I like strong tones, there is nothing in between, either straight out of tube, adding water makes them wishy washy.

Port Somewhere

Acrylics, Size 38 x 28 cms WC Arches Paper
This is my 2nd attempt at semi-abstract.
Inspiration was Vlaminck...
I know it is "kindergarten" like...but I don't care, once again I really had fun, using a large flat brush, Jo-Sonja paints (left-overs from 15 years ago and another era), mostly paints just out of the tube...oh boy one uses lots of white with acrylics..anyway a great experience and a relaxing time for an Easter Monday...

Slaters Bridge, Little Langdale, England

Watercolour, Size 38 x 28 cms
This is a picture from Sharon Whittley I really loved and was itching to paint, yet had considerable difficulties with.
One from the batch of “watercolour paper” which has lost its sizing and inspite of treatment  with MethyloCellulose and Methylat.  Spirit it still acted like a blotting paper.

Venice on a Misty Morning (Santa Maria Dell Salute)

Watercolour, Size 38 x 27 cms
Inspiration Ruth Archer's Photo_PmP.
This has been sitting pre-drawn for over 2 weeks on my desk, somehow I foreseen the difficulties & was hesitant to get going...the attempts only exacerbated by the WC paper behaving like a blotting paper once again.

Circus Clown

Watercolour, Size 30 x 19 cms
a clown is always jolly & happy and must make people laugh, but may be he is deep down unhappy and crying inside?  Like some humans may do - they put that “scintillating mask” on and sometimes one wonders?
Needless to say, my daughters do not like him, they find him scarry
